The management team of AlgiSys consists of executives with diverse backgrounds and collective experience in Fortune 500 management, lipochemistry, fermentation, algal processing/products, omega-3 fatty acids, biochemical engineering research, product development, manufacturing, supply chain management, logistics, quality control, sales and marketing.

Michael LoPresti, Co-founder

Mr. LoPresti co-founded AlgiSys in 2009,  he has extensive experience in managing start-ups, strategic planning, organizational development and capital raising.  He along with Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Charles Roe, have developed the AlgiSys Business Plan and Biotechnology Vision.  Prior to AlgiSys, Mr. LoPresti was the co-founder and EVP of a diversified Algae-to-Bio-fuels start-up company.  Additionally, he has led other start-ups, capital campaigns, consulting and construction projects and other large-scale charitable work.  He holds a degree in Business Management from John Carroll University.

Charles Roe, Ph.D., Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Roe co-founded and serves as the Chief Technology Officer of AlgiSys. Prior to establishing AlgiSys, he was the Chief Technology Officer of Biofuel Producers of America, a diversified algae products start-up company. Dr. Roe has also been employed in various organizational and functional capacities at General Electric, AkzoNobel/ICI, and NineSigma, a research and development consulting company. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from University of Pittsburgh, an M.S. in Chemical Engineering from University of Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Michigan Technological University.

Howard Wheeler, Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Wheeler has broad expertise and experience in the chemical, materials, biofuel, and biotech industries, both as a business executive and as an entrepreneur. Prior to becoming CEO, he has been a manufacturing, process development, and R&D consultant to AlgiSys since 2010.

As an entrepreneur, Mr. Wheeler is the founder of the Akron ARCH Angel investor network, which brings together promising technology companies and Angel investors in Northeast Ohio. Mr. Wheeler presently serves on the Board of Directors of Vadxx Energy LLC (Akron, OH) andOxiScience, LLC (Bellevue, WA). 

Prior to his involvement in startups, technology transfer, and angel capital formation, Mr. Wheeler was the President and a Director of the Polymer and Chemicals Division of Gencorp, Inc.  President of the Polymer and Chemicals Division of CIBA, and also previously held numerous technical and managerial roles at both CIBA and the J. R. Geigy Corp.  Mr. Wheeler began his career with Exxon, where he served in a variety of engineering and management positions.

Mr. Wheeler received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University.  He is also a graduate of advanced management programs at Columbia University and Stanford University, and has completed numerous technical short courses in fuels, polymers, specialty materials, and chemistry.


George Antoon, Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Antoon serves as the Chief Operating Officer for AlgiSys, and is tasked with the cross-functional execution and co-ordination of R&D, Process Development, Contract Manufacturing, Sales, and Marketing. Previously, he co-founded and served as the CEO of Algae Producers of America, a start-up company focused on growing and refining algae to commercialize new products for a variety of markets. Mr. Antoon has extensive experience in manufacturing, business development, start-ups, and turnaround ventures. He has worked for companies such as Office Depot, May Company, Montgomery Ward, Global Cellular, and others. Mr. Antoon has a B.A. from John Carroll University.

Michael Finn, Board Member

Mr. Finn has experience in venture capital, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, and institutional investment. He is a seasoned investment executive with extensive background in building private and public companies, as well as having served as a corporate director for over 40 companies. Mr. Finn’s areas of expertise include manufacturing, software, technology, health care, and financial services. He has worked for the State of Michigan Treasury Department, Sears Investment Management Co., Brantley Venture Partners, LanderNorth Asset Management, and others. Mr. Finn holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from Michigan State University, and currently serves on the Advisory Board of The Eli Broad Business School.
